Chanca Piedra (Phyllanthus niruri), known as “Stone Breaker” in English, literally translates to “crushes rocks.”
It’s a one- to two-foot plant that grows wild in the Amazon rainforest of Peru. Native tribes have taken Chanca Piedra for centuries.
Pharmacologists discovered that Chanca Piedra has a wide variety of bioactive agents including phytochemicals, flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, lignans, polyphenols, tannins, coumarins and saponins.
